Climate change workshop scheduled in Kotzebue

Planning and preparing for climate change is the focus of a workshop scheduled to take place in Kotzebue next week. The workshop will feature presentations on coastal erosion and storms, climate change and precipitation projections change as well as models for infrastructure replacement costs and incorporating traditional knowledge into National Weather Service products.

The two-day workshop will take place Nov. 19-20 at the National Guard Armory in Kotzebue, but will be broadcast live by KTOZ-AM radio. Visit www.kotz.org/ for a live webstream.

Presenters inlcude Sarah Trainor, ACCAP coordinator and interdisciplinary scientist, David Atkinson, atmospheric scientist; Martha Shulski, climatologist; Donie Bret-Harte, ecologist all from the University of Alaska; Jeff Osiensky, climatologist with the National Weather Service and Peter Larsen, economist and policy analyst with the Nature Conservancy.

The workshop is hosted by the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy in collaboration with the Northwest Arctic Borough, Maniilaq Association, the City of Kotzebue, UAF Chukchi Campus, the National Weather Service, the Alaska Climate Research Center and the Scenario Network for Alaska Planning.
