The University of Alaska Fairbanks percussion ensemble, Ensemble 64.8, will open its 2007-2008 season Thursday Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. with a concert in the Charles W. Davis Concert Hall on the UAF campus.

The ensemble, under the direction of professor and artistic director Morris Palter, will perform a variety of works, including "Mudra," a piece inspired by the hand gestures of North Indian dancing; "Marubatoo," a work composed by Buddhist/naturalist and NEXUS percussion group member, John Wyre; and the hard-hitting "Worker’s Union" by Dutch minimalist Louis Andriessen. Palter will also perform the solo work "Toucher," a theater piece that has him portraying over 18 different characters and is based on the Bertolt Brecht play "The Life of Galileo."

Also featured will be the UAF World Beat Ensemble, led by UAF graduate percussionist Davy Anderson, and a selection of novelty ragtime xylophone tunes.

Tickets are $5 per person and are available at the door. Children 12 and under are free.
