The University of Alaska Fairbanks Wind Symphony will present a concert, "Dances by Farnaby, Bach & Bernstein," Friday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Charles Davis Concert Hall on the UAF campus.
The UAF Wind Symphony is a select group of students who perform several concerts a year on the UAF campus and give educational concerts at local schools. The concert will highlight a variety of dance music works, from Renaissance courtly airs to a contemporary dance by Leonard Bernstein. Compositions include a suite of dances from Gordon Jacob’s "Giles Farnaby Suite," an arrangement by Gustav Holst called "Fugue a la Gigue" of Bach’s Fugue in G Major (BWV 577) and "Profanation" from "Jeremiah, Symphony No. 1" by Bernstein. The concert will also include traditional Christmas fare written for wind band by Leroy Anderson. It will be the symphony’s first evening performance under the direction of its new conductor, Karen Gustafson.
Tickets are available at the UAF music department or at the door. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students, seniors and military, and free for children 12 and under.
