The University of Alaska will join higher education institutions across the state and nation during February to highlight the availability of financial aid for students who want to pursue a college education.

February is an important month for students seeking financial aid. The deadline to apply for UA Foundation and UAF privately funded scholarships is Feb. 15.

The UAF financial aid office is hosting multiple workshops and events throughout the month to help students and families complete the paperwork necessary to take full advantage of the financial aid available.

On Sunday, Feb. 10, UAF will participate in College Goal Sunday, a nationwide program designed to help freshmen and their families fill out required paperwork. The UAF event will be held from 2-4 pm at locations around the state. The Fairbanks location will be held at Lathrop High School, but UAF volunteers are also hosting College Goal Sunday events in Nome, Bethel, and many other communities. Visit www.alaskacollegegoalsunday.com/ for full details.

UAF is also planning "How to complete the FAFSA" and other workshops throughout the month of February as part of UA’s "February FAFSA Frenzy." The list of workshops, and other FAFSA Frenzy information, can be found at www.alaska.edu/fafsafrenzy.

All College Goal Sunday and FAFSA Frenzy events are free and open to anyone planning to seek postsecondary education during the 2008-09 school year. Students and parents are encouraged to bring copies of their 2007 tax returns.
