About the competition
The UAF ensemble put forth a CD of two pieces recorded in November/December 2007 to be judged in a ’blind’ competition for the first round in December and have been invited to compete in the semi-final round of competition, and possible final round, along with approximately 20 other university ensembles from across the U.S.

Some of the notable competitors are Julliard School, Boston University, Indiana University and Ohio State. Many of the ensembles that have been invited are graduate student ensembles and our UAF Ensemble, all undergraduate students, has successfully competed with them to pass the first round of competition. The UAF Trumpet Ensemble competed several years ago and won third prize however the competition, now in it’s thirteenth year, has grown significantly and has achieved a highly prestigious caliber. Besides the Trumpet Ensemble competition at the NTC, there are also competitions for Solo Performer from Junior High to College level, a Jazz Solo competition, and a Historical Instrument competition all open to audience. There are several master classes and performances that will be offered to the competitors making the NTC both competitive and educational.

This competition is the most prestigious competition for trumpet players on the national level. Eight undergraduate students in music will participate at this national-level competition.
