CLA professors co-author book on political economy of oil
Three professors from the UAF College of Liberal Arts have collaborated with a UAA
professor to write "The Political Economy of Oil in Alaska: Multinationals vs. the
State," a book recently released by Lynne Rienner Publishing. The book explores Alaska’s
relationship with oil, according to the publisher’s description, and attempts to answer
several questions: "Does Alaska’s reliance on oil mean that it inevitably will be
controlled by corporate energy interests? Or can the state use its vast resource holdings
to manage a more symmetrical partnership." Co-authors of the book include Jerry McBeath,
UAF political science professor; Matthew Berman, UAA professor of economics; Jonathan
Rosenberg, UAF associate professor of political science, and Mary Ehrlander, UAF assistant
professor of history.
