To honor the memory of long-time employee and supporter of the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, family of the late Daniel Carey Crevensten have asked that interested individuals make a donation in Crevensten’s name to the Geophysical Institute Associates Endowment Fund--a fund Crevensten himself helped establish.
After retiring as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army in 1963, Crevensten became the executive officer at the Geophysical Institute, a post he held until September of 1975. During his tenure, Crevensten was a promoter of the institute’s diverse research endeavors, helping guide the transition to the institute’s current site in the Elvey Building, located on the West Ridge of the UAF campus.
The Geophysical Institute Associates Endowment Fund was designed to promote the research mission of the institute. The fund is used for a variety of purposes, including the development of student internships, hosting world-renowned visiting scholars, special programs for graduate students, and more. A seven-member board manages the fund and makes recommendations to the Geophysical Institute director on how the money should be used.
Daniel Crevensten died peacefully on Feb. 18, 2008 in Bellevue, Wash. at the age of 90.
