The Alaska Climate Research Center has achieved the status of a Recognized State Climate Office by the American Association of State Climatologists (AASC), termed ARSCO. This represents the sole ARSCO office in Alaska and in order for this status to be reached, a center must actively participate in climate services, research, and education and outreach. The status was awarded in April after a unanimous vote by the AASC executive board. Founded in 1976, the AASC is a professional scientific organization of state, regional, and federal climate services (http://www.stateclimate.org).
