UAF police have detained a man who reportedly threatened two people in the Signers’ Hall parking lot on Monday shortly before noon. As of about 1 p.m. police had interviewed the man and witnesses and determined that there is no current threat to the campus.

Police said the man, Larry Garritt Anderson, 40, was arrested on two charges of third-degree assault and a single count of sixth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

At 11:46 a.m., police received a report from a woman that a man claiming to have a weapon threatened her and her husband in the Signers’ Hall parking lot. The man was described as a 6-foot-tall white male with dark hair wearing a dark T-shirt and jeans. He was reportedly driving a blue Ford pickup with a water tank in the back. The woman told police that the suspect reached under the seat of his vehicle and threatened to shoot her husband. Police said the couple then fled into Signers’ Hall, where they called police.

Three officers responded to the Signers’ Hall parking lot and determined that the man had already left the scene. One officer remained to interview witnesses, while two others went to the suspect’s residence. By about 1 p.m., officers had contacted and detained Anderson at his home.
