The University of Alaska Fairbanks is sponsoring UAF Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008. Bring your UAF PolarExpress card or wear a UAF logo and receive $1 off adult fair admission.

Visit the UAF main booth in the Borealis Pavilion for information, class schedules, undergraduate applications and details about the upcoming semester. From 5 - 7 p.m. the new men’s and women’s basketball coaches Clem Johnson and Darryl Smith, as well as other coaches and players, will be available to sign autographs and talk to Nanook athletics fans. Chancellor Brian Rogers will meet with the public from 7 - 7:30 p.m.

Several other UAF departments will have informational booths in the pavilion or demonstrations in Totem Square.

Cooperative Extension Service will have a booth with energy-saving tips to alleviate the financial strain of rising fuel costs. The Geophysical Institute will have slideshows and presentations about the aurora, volcanoes and earthquakes. The physics department will do a Lego robotics demonstration from 3 - 5 p.m. at Totem Square on Aug. 5. The Tanana Valley Campus will have an informational booth and the Fairbanks chapter of the UAF Alumni Association will run a hamburger booth staffed by present and future alumni.
