Longtime local broadcaster Jerry Evans has accepted a position as director of radio programming and production at KUAC FM.
Evans is a 25-year veteran of Fairbanks broadcasting who got his start at KUAC TV as an assistant producer for television in 1982. Prior to his first stint at KUAC, he spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a photographic specialist. After serving his country, Evans returned to Fairbanks, where he worked in both radio and television, including four years at KSUA at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Most recently, Evans served as program director for two radio stations with New Northwest Broadcasting.
"I’m very excited about the opportunity to work with the staff and volunteers at KUAC FM," said Evans. "I have great respect for what KUAC has accomplished over the years and anticipate continued success in the future."
Evans’ broadcast experience, knowledge of Fairbanks and community involvement will be an asset to KUAC, said Patty Kastelic, KUAC Leadership Council member and participant of the FM director hiring committee. "It is wonderful that Jerry is returning to the campus as FM director at KUAC."
Evans starts his new position on Sept. 8, 2008, where he’ll supervise four full-time employees and an extensive group of volunteers. KUAC broadcasts on 89.9 FM providing local and national programming to Fairbanks and the Interior through eight FM translators.
