KUAC/AlaskaOne CEO and general manager Greg Petrowich has been named executive director of the WSIU Broadcasting Service at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Petrowich’s last day at KUAC/AlaskaOne is March 20. Jake Poole, UAF’s vice chancellor for advancement, plans to appoint an interim director lead the station while a national search is conducted.

"Greg has been an incredible asset to the community and has positioned KUAC as a leader in public broadcasting," said Poole. "The work at the station has been nationally recognized and has received numerous awards and national exposure for their productions and fundraising."

Petrowich is a 1991 graduate of SIUC.

"It’s an incredible honor to have the chance to return to SIUC and work with the team that introduced me to the mission of public broadcasting," said Petrowich. "Words can not describe my seven-year experience in Alaska. Working with such a dedicated staff and generous group of supporters has, no doubt, spoiled me professionally, but it has also given me a benchmark that I will take with me as I head to the Lower 48."

Since his arrival at KUAC/AlaskaOne in 2002, Petrowich led efforts to complete the digital television transition and build a culture of philanthropy by developing a leadership council and consistently breaking fundraising records. During his tenure, the station and its staff earned numerous awards, including Emmy Awards, Telly Awards, Edward R. Murrow Awards and numerous Alaska Broadcasters Association Goldie Awards. Petrowich is a board member of the Alaska Broadcasters Association, a member of the Fairbanks Downtown Rotary Club and a director on the Montessori School Board.
