Professor emeritus named fellow
University of Alaska Fairbanks professor emeritus Michael Krauss has been named a Linguistics Society of America Fellow for his distinguished contributions to the field of linguistics. Krauss and 11 other individuals were elected LSA Fellows and were recognized at the society’s 83rd annual meeting in San Francisco. Krauss, funded by a $1.2 million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation, is leading a team of veteran linguists who are working to document endangered languages in and near Alaska.
Klass, Soos to present collaborative book
Local artist Margo Klass and writer Frank Soos will be at UAF for two events on Friday, March 20. The events highlight their new collaborative book "Double Moon: Constructions and Conversations." From 3:30-4:30 p.m., they will give a talk for university students and faculty members, "Collaboration and Process," in the art department drawing studio. At 7 p.m., they will present work from their book in the University of Alaska Museum of the North auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase.
Admissions hosts Saturday sessions for prospective students
Prospective students will have an opportunity to learn more about the University of Alaska Fairbanks at a series of upcoming Saturday information sessions. The next one is March 21 and will focus on the UA Scholars program. Each session runs from 9 a.m. to noon and will offer a brief overview of the admissions process, a campus tour and a chance for students and their parents to ask questions.
