The Interior Alaska Building Association has established a $25,000 endowment to provide scholarships for University of Alaska Fairbanks students pursuing careers in building-related fields.

IABA president Dave Miller said the association recognizes UAF’s strength in providing building-related educational opportunities to students.

"Our board of directors decided that using a part of our education fund to endow a permanent scholarship at UAF would be a solid way to connect our membership with the resources and talent available through the university’s construction management and other building-related programs," says Miller.

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits and be accepted to a building-related program. Recipients also must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preference will be given to students who are Alaska residents and plan to make Alaska their home. The endowment will also memorialize various local contributors to Alaska’s building industry, including Norm Boelts, Leo Oleson, Randy Doll and Robert Maxwell.

"Our membership knows that education is a vital part of staying on the cutting edge of building science and, with this partnership, we can work together to make sure that we are building Alaska’s homes with the best possible technology available," Miller said.

The mission of the IABA is to promote safe, durable and efficient housing by educating consumers and building-industry professionals for the benefit of the community.
