Cultural critic Chuck Klosterman, author of "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs" and "Downtown Owl," will speak Tuesday, March 31 at 7 p.m. at the Wood Center Ballroom.

In bestsellers like "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs," Klosterman shows us why "pop" is a conversation anyone can join in on, and why it matters.

"Called ’ridiculously engaging’ by The New York Times, he is not a detached academic, deconstructing pop culture at arm’s-length, with a deadening sterility; he’s a regular guy whose intellectual curiosity is insatiable, infectious and surprisingly insightful," notes Klosterman’s online profile.

Klosterman is the bestselling author of four nonfiction books, including "Killing Yourself to Live" and "Fargo Rock City." His best interviews and essays are collected in "Chuck Klosterman 4." "Downtown Owl," his darkly comedic first novel, was released in September 2008.

Klosterman’s lecture is part of the University of Alaska’s Bartlett Lecture Series. Admission is free, but seating is limited. A book signing and sale will follow the lecture.

During his visit to Fairbanks, Klosterman will also meet with students in the UAF journalism department and speak to a magazine writing class.
