KUAC to conduct national search for new general manager

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will conduct a national search this spring for a new general manager of KUAC/AlaskaOne, the public radio and television station on campus. During the search, UAF’s vice chancellor for advancement, Jake Poole, will serve as interim general manager. The new director will replace former general manager Greg Petrowich, who left KUAC earlier this month to take a job as executive director of WSIU Broadcasting Service at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, his alma mater.

Summer Sessions offers new agriculture course for teachers

UAF Summer Sessions is offering a new course, Alaska Agriculture in the Classroom. The class will prepare teachers to integrate the science of agriculture into their lesson plans. The course will be offered June 2-4 at the Fairbanks Experiment Farm on the UAF campus. Instructors are Victoria Naegele, executive director of Alaska Agriculture in the Classroom, and Marilyn Krause, a science teacher at Ryan Middle School and a Future Farmers of America advisor. The class will include trips to tour farms and agriculture-related businesses, digging in a soil pit, learning about the state’s agriculture history, and learning about organic and sustainable agriculture. Alaska Center for Ocean Science Education Excellence hires Homer educator

Marilyn Sigman, a marine science educator from Homer, has been named education specialist for the recently established Alaska Center for Ocean Science Education Excellence in Anchorage. In her new position, Sigman will serve as the marine education specialist for the Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program and oversee development of marine education initiatives for COSEE Alaska. A central focus of COSEE Alaska is to heighten public understanding of climate change occurring in Alaska and the circumpolar North. The organization is the result of a partnership between the Alaska Ocean Observing System, the Alaska SeaLife Center, the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, the UAF Center for Cross-Cultural Studies, the Anchorage School District and the Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program.
