The University of Alaska Fairbanks theater and film department will host a weekend of film events centered around four public screenings of the 2008 film "Chronic Town." The film was shot in Fairbanks and was written by UAF alumnus Michael Kamsky.
The Fairbanks premiere of the film is scheduled for Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m. at the Lee Salisbury Theatre on the UAF campus.
Saturday’s events will begin with a student film festival at 2 p.m., followed by two hours of workshops with "Chronic Town" director Tommy Hines, producer Lauri LaBeau, composer Ryan Raddatz and Kamsky. Workshops will focus on independent filmmaking, composing and screenwriting. The day will end with a 7 p.m. screening of "Chronic Town."
All Friday and Saturday workshops and screenings will be in the Salisbury Theatre and are free and open to the public. Screenings will include time for the audience to ask questions of the crew.
In addition to the Friday and Saturday events, The Blue Loon will host two screenings of the film, at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4. The screenings are a fundraiser for the UAF collaborative arts committee, which aims to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration in the arts. Admission is $10 at the door. The screenings will also include question-and-answer sessions.
