Twenty-one students will graduate from the 16th session of the UAF Tanana Valley Campus law enforcement academy. The ceremony will take place May 15 at 1 p.m. at the Noel Wien Library.
The graduation marks the closing of the 13-week academy, which is offered twice a year. The academy is designed to provide students with basic police training, which enables them to receive the Alaska Police Standards Certification. The certification makes them eligible for employment with the 21 state law enforcement agencies or 43 municipal police departments within Alaska.
The graduates come from communities across Alaska, including Emmonak, Wasilla, Kotzebue, Unalakleet, Togiak, Nome, Fairbanks and Hoonah. Friday’s ceremony brings the total number of graduates from the program to 283.
The next TVC law enforcement academy starts Aug. 17, 2009.
