Attorney and University of Alaska Fairbanks alumna Grace Berg Schaible will share stories of her life and career in Alaska during a free public event Monday, June 1, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the Davis Concert Hall on the UAF campus.
During the event, host Robert Hannon will interview Schaible about growing up in Juneau, her years as an Alaska attorney and her retirement in Fairbanks.
Schaible graduated from UAF in 1949 and earned a law degree from Yale University in 1959. She served as Alaska’s attorney general from 1987-89. In 2000, the Alaska Journal of Commerce named her one of the top 25 most powerful Alaskans and the Alaska Chamber of Commerce honored her contributions to the state with its annual William A. Egan Outstanding Alaskan award. Schaible served on the Alaska Permanent Fund board of directors and is an emeritus member and former chair of the UA Foundation Board of Trustees. In 1991, UAF awarded Schaible an honorary doctor of laws degree.
The event will include time for Schaible to respond to audience questions. Immediately following the event, a free ice-cream social will take place in the Great Hall. UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning and the UAF Alumni Association are sponsoring the event.
