Journalist Alison Weir will give a free public lecture, "Israel-Palestine: Beyond the Headlines." Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.

Weir is the founder and executive director of If Americans Knew, a nonprofit organization that aims to provide information on issues that are "unreported, underreported, or misreported in the American media." The group is primarily focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and U.S. foreign policy regarding the Middle East, as well as media coverage of both. She founded If Americans Knew after traveling as a freelance reporter throughout Gaza and the West Bank. Weir continues to research the issue intensively; she recently returned from three months traveling through the West Bank, Israel and the Golan Heights. Weir also serves on the board of directors of the Council for the National Interest.
