UAF scientist to comment on Arctic Report Card

Vladimir Romanovsky, a researcher at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute, will be part of a panel of arctic experts who will issue the annual update to NOAA’s Arctic Report Card during a teleconference Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 a.m.

Romanovsky will join Richard Spinrad, NOAA assistant administrator for research; Jacqueline Richter-Menge, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory; James Overland, NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Research Laboratory; and other contributors.

The Arctic Report Card tracks changing conditions in the arctic atmosphere, sea ice, biology, land and Greenland. This year’s update shows continued widespread warming of the Arctic and associated impacts on the atmosphere, sea ice, and marine and land animals. The Arctic Report Card was introduced by NOAA’s Climate Program Office in 2006 and established a baseline of conditions in the 21st century. It is updated annually in October.
