While the face of the UAF Tanana Valley Campus has changed in its 35-year history, its tradition of excellence has remained constant.

With its programs that lead to jobs, convenient class times and locations, and committed faculty and staff members, TVC has helped thousands of Interior Alaskans meet their educational and life goals.

The campus will celebrate its 35th anniversary with a public reception Friday Oct. 30 from 3-5 p.m. at the Tanana Valley Campus Center on Barnette Street. The event will mark the completion of the building’s new exterior and commemorate TVC’s 35-year history.

Known as the community college arm of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, TVC was established in 1974. Through the years, TVC has grown to be well known for meeting the needs of both of its diverse student body and Alaska’s employers. Today, TVC offers more than 40 certificate and associate-degree programs, specialized training and professional development opportunities in ten locations around the Interior. With more than 300 employees, including full- and part-time staff and faculty members, TVC is a vital part of the local economy.

"We are especially proud of our mission of providing community driven education," says Rick Caulfield, TVC director. "TVC has been known throughout the years for listening to the needs of the community and being responsive to those needs."

Contractors recently completed the $7 million third phase of the revitalization project at the Tanana Valley Campus Center. The project included a new exterior for the 79,000-square-foot building, which provides improved thermal performance, metal stud walls, new windows, and an Exterior Insulation Finish System. The project took place March through October 2009.
