Shawn Brixey, associate professor of digital arts and experimental media at the University of Washington, will give a free public lecture Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at Schaible Auditorium on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.

The lecture, "Frontiers of Digital and Experimental Art in the 21st Century," will focus on DXARTS, a new art school for digital and experimental arts. The school offers bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in concentrations such as visual and aural synthesis, algorithmic processes, sensing and control systems, mechatronics, robotics and telematics. Brixey will speak about how the research and pedagogy of the program help art, science and engineering come together to foster the invention of new forms of art.

The public lecture is part of Brixey’s weeklong visit to the UAF art department. He is also scheduled to work with art students and faculty members throughout this week.
