Recent donations from two local companies will support a broad range of programs at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

This fall, Flint Hills Resources Alaska donated $110,000 to a variety of programs at UAF. This donation will support the athletics department’s Nanook Fund, Tanana Valley Campus, the School of Management’s visiting faculty program, UAF’s engineering open house, the College of Engineering and Mines’ E-week and robotics’ competition, and the Alaska Summer Research Academy.

Usibelli Coal Mine made a $141,500 donation to support two scholarships; the Usibelli Honors Scholarship and Usibelli Mining Scholarship funds. The honors scholarship will be awarded to students in any field of study who are participating in the honors program. The mining scholarship will support students seeking degrees in the mining and geological engineering programs. Joe Usibelli Jr., president of Usibelli Coal Mine and a 1981 UAF civil engineering graduate, presented UAF Chancellor Brian Rogers with the donation in September.
