Registration is now open for master gardener training in Fairbanks.

The class meets Feb. 23-May 25 on Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. at the University Park Building. Michele Hebert, Tanana District agriculture and horticulture agent, will teach the class, which is sponsored by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service.

Participants will receive 40 hours of instruction on horticultural subjects. Topics include plant botany and physiology, soils, plant taxonomy, outdoors and greenhouse gardening, lawns, houseplants, pests and ornamentals.

Classes are limited to 25 students and they tend to fill up quickly. Registration is requested by Feb. 12. The class fee is $75. Participants also must complete 40 hours of volunteer community service within two years of completing the class.
