Richard Caulfield, director of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Tanana Valley Campus, today announced he has accepted the position of provost at the University of Alaska Southeast. Caulfield leaves his post at TVC after six years.

Caulfield is a UAF alumnus and has been a member of the faculty for more than 25 years. His teaching and research work has focused on rural development. He has worked at the UAF main campus, Bristol Bay campus in Dillingham, and in New Zealand, Canada and Greenland. Caulfield holds bachelor’s degrees in conservation and natural resources and political science, a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in development studies. At TVC, his focus has been on workforce development, academic preparation and lifelong learning.

"My wife Annie and I have raised three children in Fairbanks and have always appreciated the energy, entrepreneurial spirit and generosity of the Fairbanks community," said Caulfield. "We will miss Fairbanks, but we are excited about our new adventure in beautiful Southeast Alaska. I am looking forward to my new role as chief academic officer at UAS and working under the leadership of Chancellor John Pugh." Caulfield will assume his duties at UAS in June. UAS is part of the University of Alaska system and is headquartered in Juneau, with campuses in Ketchikan and Sitka.

UAF will conduct a national search for his successor. In the meantime, the university will be working with the TVC community to gather input on the recruitment and transition. TVC has a community college mission and serves the needs of a diverse student population, including first-generation college attendees, both traditional and non-traditional students, military students and those seeking job training.
