Campus hosts Science Potpourri, Campus Research Day

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host two days of free science events for children and adults Friday and Saturday April 9-10.

On Friday, April 9, Campus Research Day will include lectures, presentations and lab tours throughout the day. Labs across campus will be open to visitors from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. A list of open labs and a map can be downloaded ahead of time at www.uaf.edu/research. Buildings with open labs will be marked with balloons.

Graduate and undergraduate students will participate in a poster competition at 10 a.m. in the Reichardt Building. Posters will be available for viewing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. An undergraduate research symposium is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Elvey Auditorium.

The day will culminate with an awards ceremony--which will include a presentation by UAF vice chancellor for research Buck Sharpton, "Venus: Earth’s Mysterious Sister"--at 6 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium.

On Saturday, April 10, from noon to 3 p.m., the UAF College of Natural Science and Mathematics will host its annual Science Potpourri at the Reichardt Building. The popular science event features dozens of free hands-on science activities. Participants can learn about brains, examine fossils, watch robots in action, visit with Rip the Reindeer, plants seeds, make slime, flood a monopoly town and much more.
