2012 Spotlight Series: Back in the day before oil June 13

What was Alaska like before the pipeline? What’s been gained? What’s been lost? Terrence
Cole will expand on his vast and entertaining knowledge of Alaska history, and discuss
the changes Alaska has experienced as a result of the discovery of oil in a free lecture
at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 13 at Schaible Auditorium.
Cole graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1976 with bachelor of arts
degrees in geography and in northern studies, and in 1979 with a master's degree in
history. He continued his education and received his PhD in American history at the
University of Washington in 1983. In his 21 years as a professor, Cole has been instrumental
in Alaska and abroad bringing excitement to the study of history. He has authored
five books about Alaska's history.
At this lecture he will discuss what Alaska was like before the pipeline, changes
brought on by it, and other various tidbits of Alaska's exciting history.
The 2012 Spotlight Series are free lectures held Wednesday evenings, May 30 – August
15 (no event on July 4), at 7 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium.
