The 2020-2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid is now available. All students should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible to apply for financial aid. FAFSA and scholarship application assistance is available in 107 Eielson Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment at UAF Community and Technical College at 604 Barnette Street. You can contact uaf-financialaid@alaska.edu or 474-7256 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Top 10 tips for completing your FAFSA:

  1. Download the FAFSA app to complete your application on a mobile device. This allows for easier switching between devices to allow parents to complete their sections and sign. You can download the myStudentAid mobile app from the U.S. Department of Education on the APP Store or Google Play.

  2. Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to complete your finances section. You will see a “Link to IRS” button if you are eligible to use the DRT. This makes applying faster and will save you from collecting your tax forms.

  3. Have your FSA username and password ready. If you forgot either one, use the help links in the app or on the ID creation webpage.

  4. You’ll be asked for your 2018 information and must use it. If your information has changed since 2018, contact a financial aid advisor after you submit your application.

  5. Read the dependency questions carefully. If you answer incorrectly, your application may be submitted incomplete. If you’re unsure what is being asked, use the help text on the application or contact the Financial Aid Office.

  6. If asked for your parental information, you MUST provide parental information. If you are unable to do so, contact the Financial Aid Office for assistance.

  7. Use UAF’s school code of 001063 to save time searching by state.

  8. Submit your application. Its very common to only hit the save button, but you must submit the application. You’ll be directed to a confirmation page and receive a confirmation email. The application only saves for 45 days if you don’t submit.

  9. Apply now! UAF will review your FAFSA and determine what documents you may need to provide. Having a completed FAFSA application early may help you qualify for additional aid from the state, university or private scholarships. You must submit by June 30, 2020 to be considered for state aid, including the Alaska Performance Scholarship.

  10. Follow up and check your status. We’ll receive your FAFSA and will contact you via email with your offer letter or a request for more information. Complete your next steps as soon as possible to ensure your eligibility for financial aid.
