The Alaska 4-H program will host free health and nutrition activities March 14 for elementary school-aged youths in Fairbanks.

First- to sixth-graders may participate in nutrition, cooking and fitness activities led by teens who have been trained as teachers through the 4-H Healthy Habits Champs program. The spring break session will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. in Room 108 of the old University Park Building, 1000 University Ave.

Fairbanks 4-H agent Candi Dierenfield said a half-dozen teens prepared lessons about the importance of healthy eating, active play and the environment in their daily lives.

The registration deadline is March 12. More information about the Healthy Habits Champs program and registration are available at https://bit.ly/2C8OeO6. The program is co-sponsored by the Walmart Foundation and Young Smiles Family Dentistry, which will provide tips on dental hygiene. For more information, contact Dierenfield at 907-474-1909 or at cldierenfield@alaska.edu. 4-H is a youth program affiliated with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service.
