The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program has attracted much attention for a variety of imagined activities. The truth, though far more prosaic, is still quite interesting.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute recently acquired the HAARP facility near Gakona and plans to continue research there.

The final presentation in the 2016 Science for Alaska Lecture Series will cover some of the history of HAARP, including significant research results, and plans for future work. Bill Bristow, with Geophysical Institute, is the chief scientist for HAARP and will give the presentation.

The talk will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the Gold Room at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel.

The UAF Geophysical Institute has hosted the science lecture series for the past 24 years. The Triplehorn family joined this year as a major contributor. The Alaska Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research continues as a sponsor.
