2016 poster KUAC will host its annual spring poster-signing reception Saturday, March 12, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Well Street Art Company in Fairbanks, located at 1304 Well Street off Phillips Field Road.

This year's poster features the artwork titled “Munchberry," by Fairbanks artist Gail Priday. The poster is offered as a thank-you gift for donors who support KUAC’s public broadcasting mission and is unveiled annually during the KUAC television spring fundraiser. Priday will sign posters and chat with donors at the reception.

The large oil-on-canvas piece is inspired by the smaller elements of the landscape such as the bark of a tree, lichens, berries, twigs and groundcover.

“Any time I am out in the woods I look for imagery that is both familiar and unique. Finding a nibbled bunchberry plant is exactly the type of subject I like to discover,” Priday said in her artist statement.

That uniqueness was a major deciding factor for KUAC’s volunteer selection committee, who chose Priday’s piece, along with two other submissions to put to public vote. Nearly 500 votes were submitted through the KUAC website, which confirmed Priday’s “Munchberry” as the favorite.

Committee members were: artist Jill Marshall, artist and UAF art professor David Mollett, Community Advisory Council member Pamm Zierfuss-Hubbard, KUAC supporter Mike Salzman, partner at Cook Schuhmann and Groseclose and artist Barbara Schuhmann, KUAC Friends Group chair Lorna Shaw, UAF Rasmuson Library graphic designer Dixon Jones, and KUAC’s 2015 poster artist Jennifer Moss.

KUAC’s annual television spring fundraiser runs through March 20. Gifts to KUAC can be made at the poster-signing event, as well as online at www.kuac.org or by calling 907-474-7279.
