Extension offers back-to-basics series in Anchorage

The UAF Cooperative Extension Service will host Back to Basics in the City, a workshop
series in Anchorage that begins Jan. 31.
Weekly workshops will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, through March 21, at Extension’s
Anchorage Outreach Center at 1840 Bragaw St., Room 119.
Juneau agent Sarah Lewis will teach the first class, on the basics of starting a home-based
cottage foods business. Other topics will include brain development in children; principles
of food preservation; canning salsa, tomatoes and fruit; fermentation; canning fish
in jars; diet and disease risk; and heating greenhouses. Extension agents and specialists
will teach most of the workshops by videoconference.
