Presentation features UAF contributors to literary magazine
May 24, 2016
Join emeriti professors Peggy Shumaker and Kesler Woodward on June 2 for a presentation
of "Sparks: A Conversation in Poems and Paintings."
The free public program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Alaska Museum of
the North.
"Sparks" began when Woodward asked Shumaker for a new poem, to which he painted a
response. Shumaker then responded to his painting with another poem. They continued
the exchange multiple times. The Alaska Quarterly Review, a literary magazine based
at the University of Alaska Anchorage, published the results in its spring 2016 issue.
At the event, Gerri Brightwell, associate professor of English, will read an excerpt
from her story in the same issue.
The evening is dedicated to the late Eva Saulitis, who earned master's degrees in
science and fine arts at UAF. Anyone purchasing a copy of Eva's new book, "Becoming
Earth," will receive a subscription to AQR. Proceeds will go to the Eva Saulitis Endowed Scholarship.
