LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: vs. Alaska Anchorage (Aug. 31)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s cross country running’s 2019 season will officially get underway this week, as the Nooks host in-state rival Alaska Anchorage in a one-on-one battle this Saturday, Aug. 31. The women will compete against UAA in a 5k race at 10:45 a.m., followed by the Alaska men taking on the Seawolves in a 7k race at 11:15 a.m. The races will be held in accordance with the inaugural Blue and Gold 5k Run Fest (details below), with all the events taking place at the UAF trails, located by the ski hut.

LAST WEEK: Blue vs. Gold | THIS WEEK: vs. Alumni (Aug. 31)
The Alaska Nanooks volleyball preseason continues this weekend, as the Nooks host a scrimmage against their alumni this Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Alaska Airlines Court. It’ll be fans’ last chance to get a glimpse of the Nanooks prior to their home-opener against UAA on Tuesday, Sept. 24. This Saturday’s alumni scrimmage is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Alaska Nanooks Cross Country Blue and Gold 5k
The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s cross country running teams will officially kick off the 2019 season with the inaugural Blue and Gold 5k Run Fest this Saturday, Aug. 31, at the UAF trails (located by the ski hut on West Ridge). The Nooks will host a 5k community race at 10 a.m. before hosting back-to-back intercollegiate NCAA meets against UAA (women’s 5k at 10:45 a.m., men’s 7k at 11:15 a.m.). Following the conclusion of the men’s 7k race, there will be a children’s 1k race.

The cost to participate in the community race is $10 per person or $30 for a family, with all the proceeds going to benefit the Alaska Nanooks cross country running teams. The children’s 1k race is free. Bib pick-up and walk-up registration will be conducted day-of beginning at 9 a.m. at the ski hut. Register here.

The event will also feature free refreshments and snacks, live music, food for purchase and appearances by each of Alaska’s 10 varsity athletic teams.

Weber, Whiting named to GNAC all-preseason volleyball team
On Monday, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced their 2019 volleyball preseason all-conference team, which featured junior outside hitter Lahra Weber and junior setter Cate Whiting. It is the first preseason honor for both Weber and Whiting, but the duo were named to the 2018 all-GNAC first team after a breakout sophomore season on the court. Read more.
