WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | 3-13, 0-10 GNAC

The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team continues to hunt for their first Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory of the season, as they dropped a pair of home contests last week. This week, Alaska will hit the road to take on the Simon Fraser Clan in Burnaby, British Columbia on Thursday, Jan. 31, before taking on the Western Washington Vikings on Saturday, Feb. 2, in Bellingham, Washington. Tip-off Thursday and Saturday is set for 6 p.m. Alaska time.

MEN’S BASKETBALL | 4-13, 1-9 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: at Western Oregon (Jan. 31), at Concordia (Feb. 2)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team will continue GNAC play on the road this week, as they take on the Western Oregon Wolves on Thursday, Jan. 31, in Monmouth, Oregon, before taking on the Concordia Cavaliers on Saturday, Feb. 2, in Portland, Oregon. The Nooks fell to Western Washington 70-62 last Thursday before dropping Saturday’s contest 88-55 to Simon Fraser.

NORDIC SKI
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at New Mexico Invite (Feb. 2-3)
After two weeks off from competition, the Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams will be back in action this week, as they are set to participate in the New Mexico Invitation this Saturday, Feb. 2, and Sunday, Feb. 3, at the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area in Red River, New Mexico.

RIFLE
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: Patriot Rifle Conference Championships (Feb. 2-3)
The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team will be hosting the 2019 Patriot Rifle Conference Championships this Saturday, Feb. 2, and Sunday, Feb. 3 at the Alaska Airlines Court in the Patty Center. The event will feature smallbore competition on Saturday, while Sunday will feature air rifle. The first of two relays will begin each day at 10am AKST with Saturday’s smallbore finals set for 2:45 p.m. Alaska time and Sunday’s air rifle finals set for 2 p.m. Alaska time. The two-day event will be free and open to the public and will be livestreamed on the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal.

The Patriot Rifle Conference consists of six members, including the United States Air Force Academy, the Alaska Nanooks, the University of Nevada, Ohio State University, Texas Christian University and the University of Texas at El Paso.

  • Swimming: The Alaska Nanooks swim team split their final home dual meet of the season to the Loyola Marymount Lions last Friday, Jan. 25, and Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Patty Center Pool. The Nooks won 108-97 on Friday before falling 94-110 on Saturday. It was the last home meet for Alaska’s three seniors Cassidy Heaton, Cassidy Kelly and Sierra Kinworthy and longtime Alaska Nanooks swim head coach Scott Lemley.

  • Hockey: The Nanooks earned their second Western Collegiate Hockey Association sweep of the season last weekend, defeating the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers 3-1 on Friday before earning a 5-2 victory on Saturday.

Hockey’s Thompson named WCHA Defenseman of the Week
On Monday, the WCHA named Alaska Nanooks hockey’s junior defenseman Tristan Thompson the conference’s Defenseman of the Week. Thompson’s offensive efforts helped the Nanooks to a two-game conference sweep on the road against the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers last weekend, registering one goal and two assists for three points. Cross-country’s Roivas named RMISA Nordic Skier of the Week
Last Tuesday, the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association named Alaska Nanooks senior Kati Roivas the women’s Nordic Skier of the Week following her performance at the Montana State University Invitational. The honor is Roivas’ first weekly honor of her career and Alaska’s first RMISA Skier of the Week honor since joining the conference in August of 2017. The Liperi, Finland native placed fourth in the 5km individual-start, freestyle race (16:42.7) before earning her first podium finish on Saturday, ranking third overall in the 15k mass-start, classic race (53:05.0). Swimming named CSCAA Scholar All-America team for fall semester
Last Tuesday, the Alaska Nanooks swim program was honored for its academic excellence during the 2018 fall semester on Tuesday, as it was named a Division II Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The Nooks put together a 3.30 cumulative grade point average during the fall term, which ranked 54th out of all the DII women’s teams. Read the full article here >> https://bit.ly/2RSTK0S

Half-season ticket packages available now
Starting this week, the Alaska Nanooks ticketing office is offering half-season ticketing packages for hockey, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and a combined court sport package. Ticket packages may be purchased at a prorated amount until there are fewer than four games remaining for the respective sport. All ticket packages are for general admission season only. The prices are as follows:
