MEN’S BASKETBALL | 3-4 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 2-0 | THIS WEEK: vs. Montana State Billings (Nov. 27)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team swept a pair of nonconference contests at the Montana State Billings Thanksgiving Tournament last weekend, defeating Black Hills State 68-64 on Friday before edging Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, 76-75. The Nanooks will remain in Billings until Tuesday, Nov. 27, as they open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play against the MSUB Yellowjackets at the Alterowitz Gymnasium at 5 p.m. Alaska time.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | 3-3 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: at Central Washington (Dec. 1), at Northwest Nazarene (Nov. 28)
The Nanooks dropped both of their nonconference contests at the 2018 Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational last weekend, falling 65-74 to Gannon on Friday before dropping Saturday’s game against Tampa 49-67. The Nooks will open GNAC play on the road this week, as they take on the Northwest Nazarene Nighthakws in Nampa, Idaho, on Thursday, Nov. 28, before traveling to Ellensburg, Washington, to face the Central Washington Wildcats on Saturday, Dec. 1. Thursday’s game is set for 5 p.m. Alaska time, while Saturday is slated for 6 p.m. Alaska time.

SWIMMING
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at Husky Invite (Nov. 30 – Dec. 2)
The Alaska Nanooks swim team hits the road for the first time this season, heading to Federal Way, Washington, to compete in the 2018 Husky Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center this Friday, Nov. 30, through Sunday, Dec. 2.

NORDIC SKI
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: Nordic Cup (Nov. 30 – Dec. 1)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams will finally kick off the 2018-2019 season this week, as they host the University of Alaska Anchorage in the 15th annual Nordic Cup at the Birch Hill Recreation Area in Fairbanks on Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1. Friday will feature a women’s 7.5k mass-start skate race at 5 p.m., while the men are set to race in a 10k mass-start skate race at 5:30 p.m. Saturday will feature individual-start classic sprint races with qualifiers beginning at 9:30 a.m.

HOCKEY | 2-10-2 Overall, 2-5-1-1 WCHA
LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: vs. Ferris State (Nov. 30 – Dec. 1)
The Alaska Nanooks hockey team dropped a pair of Western Collegiate Hockey Association contests against the Michigan Tech Huskies on the road last week, falling 2-1 on Friday before dropping Saturday’s game 7-2. The Alaska Nanooks return to the Carlson Center this weekend, as they host the Ferris State Bulldogs in a two-game conference series this Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1. Puck-drop both nights is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.

SAAC teddy bear toss Saturday, Dec. 1
The Alaska Nanooks Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has selected the Dec. 1 hockey game versus Ferris State as the night for the annual teddy bear toss. Fans are encouraged to bring new or slightly used stuffed animals to throw on the ice at intermission. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to Santa’s Helpers to give to children around the area during the holiday season.

Evans, Wamsley named to North Star Invitational all-tournament team
On Saturday, senior guard Emily Evans and senior forward Marian Wamsley were both named to the 2018 Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational’s all-tournament team. Evans only appeared in Friday’s game against Tampa but tallied 19 points, shooting 6-for-14 from the field, 3-for-6 from three-point range and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Wamsley tallied 31 points, shooting 13-for-25 from the floor, 1-for-1 from beyond the arc and 4-for-6 from the free throw line, while also chipping in 18 rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Hockey head coach Erik Largen to do a coaches show Nov. 29
Next week, Alaska Nanooks hockey head coach Erik Largen is set to do a coaches show at the Finish Line Restaurant and Lounge on Thursday, Nov. 29. Largen will do a sit-down interview with Tim Palmer. More details will be released soon.

2018-2019 season tickets on sale
Season ticket packages for the upcoming Alaska Nanooks hockey, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games are now on sale at the Alaska Nanooks ticketing office located in the lobby of the Patty Center. The office is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. and and Saturdays noon-6 p.m. on weeks where hockey is home.
