MEN’S BASKETBALL | 0-0 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: vs. Antelope Valley (Nov. 5), at GNAC/PacWest Crossover (Nov. 9-10)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team kicks off the 2018-2019 season this week, competing in an exhibition game against Antelope Valley at the Alaska Airlines Court on Monday, Nov. 5, before heading to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference/PacWest Challenge in Honolulu, Hawaii Nov. 9-10. Monday’s exhibition will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court at the Patty Center with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. This will be the fourth and final year of the GNAC/PacWest Challenge, with Chaminade University hosting the four-team crossover this season. The Nooks will face Chaminade on Friday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. Alaska time before taking on Hawaii Pacific at 1 p.m Alaska time on Saturday, Nov. 10. Both games in Hawaii are set to take place at the McCabe Gymnasium on the Chaminade campus.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | 0-0 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: vs. #3 Oregon (Nov. 6), at Gator Invitational (Nov. 10-11)
The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball also kicks off their season this week, first by taking on the No. 3 Oregon Ducks in an exhibition contest at the Alaska Airlines Court on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The game is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m., with doors open at 6 p.m.. Tuesday’s game is expected to sell out, so make sure to arrive early. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth (ages 5-17).

Following the Oregon game, Alaska will head to California to compete in the San Francisco State University for the Gator Invite Nov. 10-11. The Nanooks will take on SFSU on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. Alaska time before taking on the Holy Names University Eagles on Sunday, Nov. 11, at noon Alaska time. Both games will take place at The Swamp at the Don Nasser Family Plaza on the SFSU campus.

VOLLEYBALL | 13-12 Overall, 11-7 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 2-0 | THIS WEEK: at Northwest Nazarene (Nov. 8), at Central Washington (Nov. 10)
The Alaska Nanooks swept in their final two home matches of the season last week, defeating Saint Martin’s 3-0 on Thursday before defeating Seattle Pacific 3-1 on Saturday. Saturday’s win marks a new single-season best under fourth-year head coach Brian Scott and marks the most wins in a single-season for the Nanooks since 2004. Additionally, Saturday’s win assures the 2018 season to be Alaska’s first .500-or-above conference record since joining the GNAC.

This week, Alaska will play their final two matches of the 2018 season on the road, taking on the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks on Thursday, Nov. 8, in Nampa, Idaho, before taking on the Central Washington Wildcats on Saturday, Nov. 10, in Ellensburg, Washington.

HOCKEY | 0-7-1 Overall, 0-2-0-0 WCHA
LAST WEEK: Bye-week | THIS WEEK: at Lake Superior State (Nov. 9-10)
After enjoying a bye-week at home, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team hits the road once again for a pair of Western Collegiate Hockey Association contests. The Nanooks will look to earn their first victory of the 2018-2019 season against the Lake Superior State Lakers in a two-game WCHA series at the Taffy Abel Arena in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on Friday, Nov. 9, and Saturday, Nov. 10. Puck-drop both nights is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. Alaska time.

  • Cross country: The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s cross country running teams competed in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships in Monmouth, Oregon, last weekend, with both teams finishing ninth in the team rankings. Redshirt junior Alex Bergholtz was the highest-placing Nanook on the day, posting a 6k time of 22:35.1 to place 21st in the women’s race. Junior Lukash Platil finished first for the Alaska men in the 8k race on Saturday, placing 27th overall with a time of 25:55.9.

  • Rifle: The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team swept Jacksonville State in a three-match series in Fairbanks two weeks ago, remaining undefeated with a perfect 5-0 record throughout the 2018-19 season. Rookie Kellan McAferty was the top overall individual shooter on Thursday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Oct. 26, before McAferty shared the top overall spot with senior JT Schnering on Sunday, Oct. 28.

  • Swimming: The Alaska Nanooks swim team officially opened the 2018-2019 season at home three weeks ago, splitting with Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference rival Azusa Pacific. The Nanooks won 108-95 on Friday, Oct. 19, before falling 105-97 on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Blue Flame Street Side food truck outside the Patty Center Nov. 6
The Blue Flame Street Side food truck will be parked outside the Patty Center Tuesday, Nov. 6, prior to the Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball game versus Oregon. Blue Flame will be open at 5:30 p.m. at the east side of the Patty Center. A portion of the proceeds from the food truck will go to support the Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team.

@AlaskaNanooksXC to host SkiFest this Saturday, Nov. 10
The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams will be hosting their annual SkiFest this Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Birch Hill Recreation Area. The schedule is as follows:

  • 4:30 p.m.: Skate and classic ski lessons from members of the Alaska Nordic ski team for UAF Ski Team Booster Club members and their friends and family

  • 6 p.m.: Free SkiFest dinner

  • 6:30 p.m.: Introduction to the 2018-2019 Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams

  • 7 p.m.: Door prize and raffle drawings, including a custom-fitted Carbonlite pair of skis from Beaver Sports as the grand prize


FXC will be hosting its annual Freeze Up Funk Fest directly following SkiFest, featuring the band Shagg, immediately afterward at 7:30 p.m. While all SkiFest activities are free, the Freeze Up Funk Fest has a $20 cover at the door and beer and wine sales by donation.

SAAC canned food drive Nov. 16-17
The Alaska Nanooks Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is hosting its annual canned food drive at the Nov. 16-17 hockey games versus Alabama-Huntsville. The Nanooks are asking fans to bring any canned or nonperishable food item to the gamesto be donated to the Fairbanks Community Food Bank prior to Thanksgiving weekend.

2018-2019 season tickets on sale
Season ticket packages for the upcoming Alaska Nanooks hockey and men's basketball and women's basketball games are now on sale at the Alaska Nanooks ticketing office in the lobby of the Patty Center. The office is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m., and Saturdays from noon-6 p.m.during weeks where hockey is home.
