The Alaska Summer Research Academy at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is accepting applications through March 31 for its day-only middle and high school program, July 20-July 31, 2015.

Students accepted into the summer program will spend two weeks with a small group and two instructors exploring a topic in science, engineering, math or technology. The program is offered through the UAF College of Natural Science and Mathematics.

The middle school program is for students who will be in grades 6 to 8 in the fall of 2015. The high school program is for students who will be in grades 9 to 12 in the fall of 2015. Scholarships may be available for qualified students.

There are four middle school modules:

  • Permafrost — Secrets in Ice

  • Chickenology

  • Computer Science and Web Development

  • Remotely Operated Vehicles


There are eight high school modules including

  • Archaeology*

  • Biomedicine

  • Blimps 101

  • Engineering Extreme Energy

  • Jellies, Octopuses, Seastars, Oh My!*

  • Mr. Monk and The Tale of Mice and Men

  • One Health

  • Veterinary Medicine


*These two modules include a 6-day expedition.
