The Alaska swim team trekked down to Flagstaff, Ariz., for its annual elevation training trip. This trip will prove to be vital for the success of the Nanooks later this season heading into the PCSC and NCAA Championship meets. The swimmers will provide blog updates every couple days from the Grand Canyon State.

The training trip will last from Dec. 28 until Jan. 12 when the Nanooks will fly to Vancouver to compete in a tri-meet against Simon Fraser and University of Puget Sound in Burnaby, B.C.

Today, in the fifth edition of the team's blog, freshman Nina Mullin (Moss Beach, Calif./Wildlife Biology) talks about the team finally getting to sleep in! She goes through their workout routine as the team prepares for the tri-meet in five days. Here is her account of the trip:

"Today we slept in and then we got right down to work with BUTTS. During dryland we ran stairs, did lunges and of course box jumps. Box jumps for the less coordinated are not the best idea. I fell hard, rug burning both my knees.

Prior to our butt workout, the highlight of the day was my roommate strutting into the pool in her pajamas (that look like a onesie) paired with mismatched socks and flip flops.

Did I mention that there was a British team there as well? She got some pretty interesting looks. After dryland we got in the pool which felt amazing after having sweated buckets. The pool workout was very relaxing because it was recovery!"
