After splitting against Seattle Pacific and Saint Martin’s at home last week, the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team hits the road for two Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches this week. The Nooks will face the Central Washington Wildcats on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. AST before taking on Northwest Nazarene Saturday, Sept. 30, at noon.

LAST WEEK: Blue defeats Gold 4-2 | THIS WEEK: vs. Simon Fraser (Sept. 29)
After hosting their annual Blue vs. Gold intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team unofficially kicks off the 2017-2018 season Friday, Sept. 29, by hosting the Simon Fraser University Clan in an exhibition game at the Carlson Center. Puck-drop is slated for 7:07 p.m. AST.

Hockey picked eighth in WCHA preseason polls
On Monday, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association released the rankings for the 2017-2018 WCHA Preseason Coaches Poll and the 2017-2018 Preseason Media Poll. The Nanooks were picked to finish eighth in both polls, two spots behind where the Nooks concluded the 2016-2017 regular season.

Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks sports information office declared freshman Oda Bygdnes (swimming) and sophomore forward Aaron Herdt (hockey) the Sept. 25 selections for the Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week for their performances in the pool and on the ice, respectively.

Oda Bydgnes (Freshman | Harstad, Norway)
In Alaska swimming’s Blue vs. Gold Pentathlon on Friday, Bydgnes proved the be the best swimmer in the pool in her unofficial college debut, posting the lowest combined time from the five individual events at 5:12.81. Bygdnes placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.20 and also placed first in the 100-yard IM, touching out at 1:02.81.

Aaron Herdt (Sophomore | Moorhead, Minn.)
In Alaska hockey’s Blue vs. Gold intrasquad scrimmage Saturday night, Herdt was one of three Nanooks to tally a multipoint night with a goal and an assist. Herdt led the Gold team to a 4-2 victory Saturday as he opened up the scoring in the first half before assisting on junior forward Chad Staley’s game-tying goal in the second.

All men's ice hockey games (home and away) can be heard live on 820AM Fairbanks or at 820sports.com. Additionally, fans have the option to watch the games live for fee at WCHA.tv.
