Skier Fehrenbach wins second Elite 90 Award
March 9, 2016
Alaska Nanooks’ cross-country ski team standout Michael Fehrenbach received the Elite
90 Award at the 2016 NCAA Skiing Championships Banquet at the Steamboat ski resort
in Colorado on Tuesday, March 8.
The award goes to the undergraduate student athlete of sophomore standing or above
with the highest grade point average at every NCAA championship. Fehrenbach, a mechanical
engineering major, holds a 4.0 GPA.
This is the second time the redshirt junior from Saint Margen, Germany, has won the
award. He also received it at the 2014 NCAA Skiing Championships in Park City, Utah.
“We are so excited that Michael has once again received this prestigious award from
the NCAA,” Alaska Nanooks Athletic Director Gary Gray said. “It’s an honor to win
it once, but even more amazing to win it twice. For Michael to be a national-class
skier and to be able to keep such a high GPA in mechanical engineering is an incredible
accomplishment, especially given all the travel our ski team endures. We wish him
all the best as he competes in the NCAA National Championships this week.”
The Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski teams will hit the trails beginning Thursday, March
10, participating in the women’s 5-kilometer and the men’s 10-kilometer individual-start
skate races at Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. For more information
