The University of Alaska Fairbanks and Alaska 4-H Program will recognize the Month of the Military Child Friday, April 19.

The 4-H Military Program is asking Alaskans to wear purple on that day as a visible way to thank military youths for their strength and sacrifices. Purple symbolizes all branches of the military.

From 1-3 p.m. in the Wood Center multilevel lounge on the Fairbanks campus, UAF will host a reception with purple cake for past and present military children.

The 4-H Military Program, part of the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, provides support and activities to military youth, families and communities.

ADDITIONAL CONTACTS: Debbie Carter, Extension information officer, 907-474-5406, dscarter@alaska.edu. Candi Dierenfield, 4-H Military Program director, 907-474-1909,  cldierenfield@alaska.edu.
