All-day event on burning with wood scheduled June 11

A free all-day event June 11 at the Cold Climate Housing Research Center in Fairbanks will feature presentations on burning wood for heat, electricity and biochar.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will host the Interior Wood Burning event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1000 Fairbanks St. Topics will include options for residential wood boilers; choosing a wood stove; comparing pellets, chips or logs; emissions and particulates; greenhouse heat; biochar; and splitting, stacking and covering firewood. Biochar is a specially produced charcoal that is used as a soil amendment and for water filtration.
