A team will help make spatial data in Delta Junction compatible with computer-assisted emergency call dispatching during a "mapathon" March 8 at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The Alaska Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research is partnering with the American Red Cross and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap team for the event.

The mapathon will be held in Decision Theater North, an immersive data-visualization center with a bank of high-definition monitors providing more than 60 million pixels of resolution. It's located on the West Ridge Research Building on the Fairbanks campus.

Attendees will learn how to use OpenStreetMap and will apply their skills to improve mapping of the Delta area for humanitarian response and economic development.
