Anchorage Extension offers food preservation series

A series of five food preservation classes offered by the Cooperative Extension Service in Anchorage begins July 25.

All classes will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursdays in the Loussac Library Learning Commons on the fourth floor of the library. Individuals may sign up for single classes at $25 each or for all five at $100.

Gina Dionne, of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, will teach the classes. Topics include:


  • Jams and jellies, July 25

  • Pickles, flavored vinegars and sauerkraut, Aug. 8

  • Dehydrating fruits and vegetables, Aug. 22

  • Packaging foods to be frozen, Sept. 12

  • Introduction to canning, Sept. 26
