Senior goalkeeper Anton Martinsson was named the conference Goalkeeper of the Week for his play on Nov. 2 in the Nanooks victory over Bemidji State. The team split the weekend series with the Beavers, but behind Martinsson's performance, took game two, 3-1, the first home victory this season.

Martinsson stopped 37 of the 38 shots put on net, allowing the only goal in the first period. The Beavers put the pressure on Martinsson early, throwing 18 shots on goal in the first period. After stopping 18 of 19, Martinsson went perfect the rest of the game; 11 saves in the second and eight in the third.

The 37 saves resulted in the third highest in Martinsson's career at Alaska, giving him a new 2019-2020 season-high and  just two below his career-high of 39.

"He was fantastic Saturday night for us," said head coach Erik Largen. "He made critical saves at key points in the game."

This is Martinsson's fourth time winning the goalkeeper award from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, and the first time this season.

The Alaska Nanooks hockey team is back in action this weekend on Nov. 8-9 as they host the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday and Saturday. Both games will be at 7:07 p.m. at the Carlson Center.
