Anyone in the Arctic observing community interested in exchanging ideas and developing ways to collaborate, share and improve international Arctic observing is encouraged to register.

AOS is a biennial summit held in conjunction with Arctic Science Summit Week. This year's conference, whose theme is "observing for action," will take place March 30 to April 2.

The goal of the event is to provide community-driven, science-based guidance for the design, implementation, coordination and sustained long-term operation of an international network of Arctic observing systems.

The International Arctic Research Center has been instrumental in coordinating a team from around the circumpolar north to make this year’s summit a success as it moves from an in-person conference in Iceland to an online platform in only a month’s time.

The agenda for the summit consists of plenary and breakout sessions centered around the following sub-themes:

  1. Design, optimization and implementation of the observing system

  2. Observing in support of adaptation and mitigation

  3. Observing in support of Indigenous food security and related needs

  4. Data interoperability and federated search

  5. Arctic observations in the context of global observing initiatives

Events will be held primarily on the Zoom platform, with video recordings of selected sessions.
