Athletics budget cuts

In years past the BOR has looked into the athletics programs at UAA and UAF as a source of potential cuts to save the University system money. In following along with proposed funding levels and cuts to the UA system(once again) I have not heard about the athletic programs being a potential source of savings. At some point athletics will need to be eliminated all together within the UA system. That is inevitable in the current and future fiscal climate. Why not be strategic in eliminating athletics sooner rather than later and dedicate those funds to improving the academic experience for all students and not just a select few?
