Rob Roy, author of “Living Mortgage Free: Innovative Strategies for Debt-Free Home Ownership,” will present a free public lecture Monday, July 26 at 7 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.

Roy is the owner of the eco-friendly Earthwood Building School and author of more than 15 books on affordable and green building methods. He will discuss what he calls “radical but workable strategies that enable you to own your own home.” He’ll explain how to find and buy affordable land, use of temporary shelters, low-cost home design and other ideas.

Roy will also lead a subsequent cordwood masonry workshop July 27-29 at the Georgeson Botanical Garden Pavilion. Roy and his wife and business partner, Jaki Roy, will build a cordwood garden shed during the three-day workshop. Registration is $300.

The Roys have spent their adult lives mastering green building methods and other strategies that allow the type of financial freedom most homeowners only dream about. The couple has been sharing their techniques at workshops at the Earthwood Building School since 1981. Roy’s other books include “Cordwood Building: The State of the Art,” “The Sauna” and “Stoneview: How to Build an Eco-Friendly Little Guesthouse.”

Roy’s lecture is presented by UAF Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning.
